Synthetic Biology lab class 'Practical Course Directed Evolution'

The Bathe lab offers a Synthetic Biology lab class happening annually in the sommer term at the Technical University of Munich, location Freising. This class teaches basics of molecular biology (cloning, DNA isolation, PCR), synthetic biology (continuous directed evolution using OrthoRep) and bioinformatics (analysis of Sanger sequencing results, sequence alignment, 3D protein structure modeling). The class is open to 20 students from the TUM Master programs of Biology, Molecular Biotechnology and Agricultural Biosciences.

Lecture 'Plant Biotechnology' (together with Prof. Brigitte Poppenberger)

In each summer term, Ulschan Bathe teaches two 90-min classes of the 'Plant Biotechnology' lecture by Prof. Brigitte Poppenberger. Topics include 'The plant carbon budget' and basics of 'Plant Synthetic Biology'.

Discussion 'Hot Topics in Life Sciences' (in German)

Ulschan Bathe offers discussion about 'Gene editing in plants - benefits, risks, and myths' on five dates in the winter term. This is part of the Bachelor module 'Hot Topics in Life Sciences' and is held in German. The discussion with a group of up to 12 students covers basics of gene editing in plants, discusses current opinions in the communities and shall explain potential benefits.

Intership 'Plant Metabolic Engineering in Yeast'

The Bathe lab offers a 6-week internship to learn about our research and to work on a small individual project. Application is possible any time, preferably by email with a short motivation letter, CV and transcript of record.

Bachelor and Master theses

Feel free to contact us about opportunities to do your Bachelor or Master thesis in our lab. Students are typically assigned to one of the ongoing projects. We ask interested students to apply by email with a short motivation letter, CV and transcript of record.
